Dear Art Friends,
This summer marked many transitions for our family, most notably dropping off our oldest at college (a piece of our hearts now resides in California). At times, as we prepared for the big send-off, there were so many bodies and energies moving through our home that I dreamt I ate the air around me to try and make some space. Now, as the dust settles, the space created brings reflection tinged with both sadness and hope. New traditions are forming, we forge new skills, and dormant potentials are breaking through. I’m enjoying the short season of figs, from late August to October, which I learned is named “New Wood Season” in fig terms. I have a show opening in the new wood season called “Raw Materials;” I’d love to tell you more about it.
“Raw Materials” at Nkollectiv
“Raw Materials” explores the latent feelings, processes, and beneath-the-surface conditions that shape our actions and ultimately direct our lives. Folded and sewn “Pocket Notes” collect on a gridded ground of layered oil and cold wax, suggesting the complexity of our inner communications. “Seeds” make use of repetitive shapes—the unseen “seeds” of lived life - that exist at varying levels of breakthrough. “Torsos” echo human forms constructed from weathered collage fragments and bundled artist-made scraps. This collection -- stitched together with tangled threads and irregular edges -- suggests that human makeup is raw and beautiful. Like a body, each work in the show has its unique role, individually depicting small moments and decision points while working in concert to become a whole greater than its parts.
Please join me for two public events as part of this show:
An artist’s reception on the opening night of the show, Friday, September 20, from 5:30-8:30 PM. I’ll have drinks and nibbles for visitors.
An artist’s talk on Sunday, September 22, at 2:00 PM.
Both events will be held at NKollectiv Gallery, 960 Santa Fe Drive, Denver, CO 80238.
Thank you, Summer Art Market
It was an honor to participate in the Art Students League’s Summer Art Market — what a significant weekend for me. It means so much to talk with people about the work I do. If you've chatted with me at shows, supported me on social media, purchased my work, cheered me on, or are reading my news here - thank you. These connections provide fodder for the work ahead and truly feed me.
Thank you for reading my show news. I hope to connect with you at one of my upcoming events, and I’ll have more updates soon. In the meantime, I wish you a beautiful end of summer and the beginning of fall—a worthy new wood season full of promise.
